October 9, 2009 - Liberty, KY: An EF2 tornado made a 1.5-mile track near Liberty, damaging or destroying several homes, a church and farm buildings.

October 10, 1949 - Nebraska: An estimated F3 tornado moved NNE from 9 miles west of Hartington, NE, passing near “Constance” and ending five miles north of “Pleasant Valley.” Two farms were hit with near-F4 damage to one of the homes.

October 11, 1927 - Arkansas: A possible F3 tornado moved 10 miles from Dell to Blytheville, AR. Six homes were destroyed at Dell. Five were killed in three separate homes.

October 12, 1978 - Winona, OH: One tornado is listed in the SPC Database for this day. It was given a rating of F3 and traveled about seven miles through parts of Columbiana County, OH. Per the Storm Data entry, several homes sustained damage with four of them completely destroyed.

October 13, 2014 - Monroe, LA: An EF2 tornado developed near Monroe, LA and tracked ENE for a little over 9 miles through town. Many homes, apartments, and businesses sustained varying degrees of damage. The West Monroe High School lost most of its roof.

October 14, 1966 - Belmond, IA: It is the only F5/EF5 on record during the month of October. It is the only F5/EF5 on record during the month of October.

October 15, 2009 - Americus, GA: An EF1 tornado tracked for 2 miles through rural Sumter County, GA, south of Americus. A grocery store was heavily damaged, and several trees were blown over.

From the Greensburg, Kansas Tornadic Storm: A Storm of Extremes (Umscheid/Lemon)

The Greensburg Tornado of May 4, 2007 was the first to be given an EF5 rating under the new Enhanced Fujita Scale. That scale went operational in February of 2007. We have a premium summary that details this monstrous tornado that wiped out 95% of Greensburg, KS. From the summary….

“The official path length was 25.8 miles and the path was unique. It moved NE out of Comanche County into Kiowa. It then curved north then northwest before making a complete loop northwest of Greensburg. Per Storm Data, about the “loop”, “this was documented on both high resolution doppler radar and through the ground survey.’”

Nonprofit builds and donates 16 houses to Kentucky tornado victims

The devastating December 10-11, 2021 Tornado Outbreak left thousands of people with damaged and destroyed homes. The non-profit Samaritan’s Purse, continues to work in a neighborhood in Bowling Green, KY. They have built 16 of 60 homes.
