Good morning and welcome to another week of tornado history! Not a lot of business updates from the team. We continue to have our heads buried in mounds of research for our next 1974 Super Outbreak summary series which will be on the Guin, AL F5!

January 1999 would turn out to be the busiest on record for tornadoes and on the 22nd, 43 tornadoes occurred. The strongest devastated Clarksville, TN. Check out our video below and our summary here!

🌪️ This Week In Tornado History
January 22, 1904 - Moundville, AL: An estimated F4 tornado moved from 2 miles SW of Moundville, AL. It leveled the northern half of town. Per Thomas Grazulis in Significant Tornadoes, "Half the population was killed or injured. Bodies were carried for a half mile. Sections of NE Moundville were left with only bare ground." The path length was 15 miles. 150 were injured and 36 killed.
January 23, 2012 - Center Point, AL: An EF3 tornado struck Center Point, AL. 231 homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed along the nearly 16-mile long path. One person was killed, and 75 others were injured.

January 24, 1964 - Harpersville, AL: This F3 tornado had a 3 mile path. It moved from 1 mile SW of Harpersville to the southeast part of town. Three homes were leveled along US-280. Ten were killed in these homes. There were six injuries.
January 25, 2021 - Fultondale-Center Point, AL: On this day, an EF3 tornado tracked for 10 miles across parts of Jefferson County, AL, hitting Fultondale and Center Point. Dozens of homes and several businesses were damaged or destroyed. There was one fatality and at least 30 injuries.

January 26, 1974 - Randolph County, AL: This tornado had a path over 21 miles. At the Highway community, two frame houses were destroyed. 9-month-old Bartlett Baldwin was killed. His 6-year-old sister and father were injured.

January 27, 1967 - Felton, DE: Per the Storm Data Publication, this was the first tornado to hit Delaware during the winter months (December through February). The twister moved to the northeast for only 1/2 mile. Four houses were destroyed. Per the Morning News, Wilmington, DE, Biggs service station was demolished on the northeast corner of US 13 and Delaware 12.
January 28, 1879 - Iuka, MS: Thomas Grazulis documents a potential F2 tornado that moved across the southern part of Iuka, MS. Approximately a 1/2 dozen small homes were destroyed. Four were killed and 20 injured. Newspapers reported six fatalities.

On January 21, 1999, an F3 tornado struck Beebe, AR. We have a summary about this event. James Bryant from KATV shared video from the archives of the damage in that area.
Beebe was devastated by an F3 tornado 25 years ago on January 21st, 1999. This tornado was one of 56 to strike the state during our largest tornado outbreak on record.
