  • We have now released eight chapters of our writing series on the Frankfort, KY F4 Tornado - April 3, 1974! Each chapter is available to Patreon supporters.   • Work has begun on the next summary series from the 1974 Super Outbreak! We will be looking at the F5 that struck Guin, AL.

  • The latest “This Week In Tornado History” video has been released! An outbreak of 39 tornadoes occurred across parts of nine states on January 10, 1975. The strongest tornado of the day was given a rating of F4. It had a long track through parts of Pike, Lincoln, Lawrence and Simpson Counties in Mississippi. Thomas Grazulis in Significant Tornadoes notes that this may have been a family of tornadoes. 9 were killed and over 200 injured.

🌪️ This Week In Tornado History

January 8, 1939 - Cisco, TX: An estimated F2 tornado moved south of Cisco, TX. Three farm homes were destroyed. Eight people were injured.

January 9, 1972 - Laurel, MS: Six tornadoes occurred across parts of Mississippi on this day. One of the strongest, later rated F3, crossed through parts of Jones and Wayne Counties and the city of Laurel. It had a 23.6 mile path. 12 people were injured. Civil Defense reported 15 homes totally destroyed, and moderate damage to 100 others.

January 10, 2020 - Logan County, AR: An EF2 tornado tracked for nearly 14 miles across central Logan County, AR. A few homes lost their roofs, and barns and chicken houses were destroyed. 

January 11, 1951 - San Francisco, CA: During the morning hours of January 11, 1951, a squall line pushed across the San Francisco Bay area. The storms produced millions of dollars in damage as straight-line winds and tornadoes ripped through the region. Per the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) and National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) databases, one twister occurred on this day, an F2 in Sunnyvale. Thomas Grazulis in Significant Tornadoes lists two tornadoes, the Sunnyvale F2, as well as an F2 at San Jose. Upon doing research, we were able to definitively confirm two additional tornadoes.

January 12, 1932 - Moundville, AL: An F3 tornado moved through portions of Hale and Tuscaloosa Counties in Alabama. It moved 8 miles across the east side of Moundville. 30 homes were destroyed along with a two-story grammar school. 9 were killed in 5 different homes. 29 were injured.

January 13, 2006 - Belleville, AL: 15 tornadoes hit on this day. All were rated F0 or F1. The Belleville tornado is the only one that caused a fatality. Three homes were destroyed and 15 other structures were damaged. Eight vehicles were damaged. Numerous trees and power lines were brought down. The Belleville fire department was destroyed. “Only one cinder block wall was left standing at the station.” A woman was killed in her home.

January 14, 2005 - Rockwell, NC: An F2 tornado dipped briefly just northeast of Rockwell, NC. Along the 0.30 mile path, two metal buildings and a barn were leveled.
