🌪️ This Week In Tornado History

September 2, 2002 - Ladysmith, WI: Six tornadoes were confirmed on September 2, 2002, all in the state of Wisconsin. There were 2 F0s, 2 F1s, 1 F2 and 1 F3. We take a look at that F3 in this summary. The tornado struck around 420pm on Labor Day 2002 just to the west of downtown Ladysmith.

September 3, 1879 - Sandy Springs, MD: Thomas Grazulis documented a “copper and reddish-black” tornado that moved NNE at Sandy Springs, MD. “Large trees were snapped and whirled 600 feet into the air.”

September 4, 2017 - Ohio: There was one tornado confirmed on Labor Day of 2017. It traveled almost 17 miles through parts of Crawford and Richland Counties in Ohio. Two people were injured.

September 5, 2020 - Madera County, CA: An EF2 pyrotornado moved along a 12-mile path north of Mammoth Pool through the Wagner Campground. Numerous large trees were snapped 20-30 feet up with branches and bark removed.

September 6, 1898 - New York: Thomas Grazulis documents an estimated F3 tornado that moved northeast, passing four miles NW of Geneva, NY near Phelps. A family of five were seriously injured. He denoted one man killed in the destruction of a farm home. Some newspapers reported that his wife was killed as well.

September 7, 2002 - Texas: Tropical Storm Fay produced several tornadoes in Texas. One of which rated F0, touched down briefly near Boling, TX. A mobile home was destroyed, and three others were damaged.

September 8, 1885 - Fayette County, OH: An estimated F3 tornado moved 15 miles through parts of Fayette County, Ohio. It moved east from 7 miles west of Washington Court House, passing through the center of town. 300 buildings were damaged/destroyed, 200 of which were homes. “Detailed studies of this tornado included tracing what was probably the path of a 40 foot diameter suction vortex arcing in around a 250 foot radius.” 6 were killed, 125 injured.
