🌪️ This Week In Tornado History

February 19, 1888 - Mount Vernon, IL: Thomas Grazulis documents a possible F4 tornado in Jefferson County, IL. It devastated the southeastern part of Mt. Vernon. Approximately 300 homes and 50 businesses were demolished. 24 people were killed and 80 injured. “Overturned wood stoves ignited many fires in the wreckage. Five businesses on the town square burned to the ground, as did a half dozen homes to the northeast of the square.”

February 20, 1937 - Ozark/Marshfield, MO: An F3 tornado tracked 32 miles from 2 miles NW of Ozark, MO, passing 4 miles SE of Marshfield. A dozen homes and two brick schools were destroyed. Eleven were injured.

February 21, 2014 - Dublin, GA: An EF2 tornado tracked for 17.5 miles across Laurens and Johnson Counties in Georgia on February 21, 2014. North of Dublin, a house was destroyed, and 59 others were damaged.

February 22, 2003 - Evans, GA: An intense tornado and microbrust struck near Evans, GA, on February 22, 2003. They produced F2 damage when four homes were ripped apart. 34 others homes had minor damage. Debris from a destroyed barn was found one mile away.

February 23, 1975 - Tuscaloosa, AL: This F4 tornado leveled homes south of Tuscaloosa. In the SE part of the city, significant damage occurred at the intersection of I-59 and McFarland Blvd. A new Scottish Inn Motel was destroyed. 23-year-old housekeeper Thelma Hill was killed when most of the second floor of the motel was sheared away by the tornado causing a wall to fall on her.

February 24, 1935 - Wichita, KS: An F2 tornado moved nine miles passing from west of Wichita, KS to near Kechi. Six homes and a school had roof damage. Six people were injured.

February 25, 1929 - Duncan, MS: An F4 tornado moved 12 miles through Bolivar County, MS. It went through the town of Duncan. 20 homes and 13 brick buildings were demolished. 19 people were killed and 42 were injured.
