We are cruising through this first full week of 2025 with a LOT of work to do! The team is pouring hours into the most in-depth narrative out there about the April 3, 1974 Guin F5 Tornado. We are sorting through hundreds of pictures, writing more stories, and conducting interviews. This will be a premium multi-chapter story available to Patreon supporters.

After the Guin release, we will be diving deep into the Virtual Tornado Memorial Project. We will be using our newsletter, Patreon and social platforms to keep everyone posted on our progress.

In addition to building the project, we do have other summaries that will be released.

🌪️ This Week In Tornado History

January 6, 1946 - Arkansas: A tornado given a rating of F4 moved through Ashley and Chicot Counties in Arkansas. The path length was 23 miles. It moved from near Wilmot to SE of Lake Village. “Homes of all sizes were leveled by this large tornado. Over twenty were destroyed on two plantation near Wilmot. Three homes were blown into Lake Chicot.” Three were killed and 50 injured. Source: Thomas Grazulis

January 7, 1989 - Illinois/Indiana: Six tornadoes were produced during the late afternoon/early evening of January 7, 1989. The most significant twister of the day hit the small town of Allendale, IL, in Wabash County. Per the Storm Data Narrative from January 1989, “much of the town was obliterated.” Fifty-five people were injured along the 22-mile path.

January 8, 2019 - Ohio: An EF1 tornado moved across Mosquito Lake into the town of Courtland, OH. Numerous trees were knocked down, and there was significant damage at a cemetery.

January 9, 18987 - Kentucky: An F2 tornado moved 2 miles through parts of Union County, KY. The narrow path moved through Morganfield. Several businesses and city hall were damaged. “A police officer was killed at his desk in the city hall building as walls collapsed.” Source: Thomas Grazulis

January 10, 1975 - Mississippi: An outbreak of 39 tornadoes occurred across parts of nine states on January 10, 1975. The strongest tornado of the day was given a rating of F4. It had a long track through parts of Pike, Lincoln, Lawrence and Simpson Counties in Mississippi. Thomas Grazulis in Significant Tornadoes notes that this may have been a family of tornadoes. Nine people were killed and 210 injured.

January 11, 1951 - California: Two tornadoes occurred on this day in 1951, both were later rated F2 and both caused damage, some of it extensive in Santa Clara County, CA. One hit in the Sunnyvale area and another in San Jose.

January 12, 1932 - Alabama: An F3 tornado moved through portions of Hale and Tuscaloosa Counties in Alabama. It moved 8 miles across the east side of Moundville. 30 homes were destroyed along with a two-story grammar school. 9 were killed in 5 different homes. 29 were injured.

The first tornado of the year occurred on January 3 in Tehama County, CA! It occurred in an unpopulated area about 8 miles northeast of Dairyville. There have been no reports of damage and the NWS Sacramento gave this twister a rating of EF-U (unknown). The tornado was seen on an ALERTCalifornia PG&E webcam.
