🌪️ This Week In Tornado History
December 23, 2015 - Mississippi/Tennessee: 31 tornadoes occurred on this day. The strongest and deadliest of the day was a long track EF4, the second in a tornado family that caused damage through parts of northern Mississippi into southeastern Tennessee. Devastating damage occurred at Chulahoma, Ashland and Holly Springs, MS. Nine people were killed and 36 injured.

December 24, 1945 - Mississippi: An F2 tornado destroyed six houses, two churches, and a store NW of Sumrall, MS. Three were killed in one home. One body was carried for a quarter mile. “Groceries from the store were scattered across half a quare mile.” Source: Thomas Grazulis
December 25, 2012 - Alabama: An EF2 tornado tracked through Mobile, AL. Dozens of homes and businesses sustained damage. The Trinity Episcopal Church was heavily damaged.
December 26, 2015 - Texas: A very strong storm system produced 12 tornadoes across parts of North and Central Texas on December 26, 2015. The strongest that day was rated EF4. It began in Sunnyvale, TX (Dallas County). Several mobile homes were destroyed in this area. The tornado then traveled through the communities of Garland and Rowlett causing tremendous damage and loss of life. There were 10 fatalities. Nine of these were vehicles as the tornado crossed Interstate 30 at the President George Bush Turnpike. One fatality occurred in a collapsed home in Rowlett.

December 27, 1922 - Mississippi: An estimated F2 tornado moved northeast from 3 miles East of Edwards, MS. It destroyed a half dozen frail rural cabins. Five members of one family were killed in one of those cabins.
December 28, 1946 - Arkansas: An F2 tornado moved 25 miles through parts of Howard, Pike and Montgomery Counties in Arkansas. 25 people were injured. Dozens of homes were destroyed from 6 miles West of Newhope to east of Langley to SE of Mt. Ida.
December 29, 2006 - Texas: A large winter outbreak occurred across the state of Texas on December 29, 2006. Officially, the SPC Database lists 27 tornadoes. The max rating was F2 and there were four tornadoes given that rating. One of those F2s moved over 20 miles through parts of Limestone County. Approximately four miles SW of Groesbeck, the tornado hit the Vincent Personal Care home, an assisted living facility for veterans. There were several injuries in this area and one of the homes was severely damaged. Ryan Roper, 51 was killed.
