🌪️ This Week In Tornado History

August 4, 2020 - North Carolina: On this day, Hurricane Isaias spawned an EF3 tornado near Windsor, NC. Two people were killed, and 14 were injured. Several mobile homes and stick-built homes were annihilated.

August 5, 1917 - Oklahoma: An estimated F2 tornado moved through parts of Grady County, OK. Three homes were demolished 5 miles NE of Pocasset. There was 1 fatality and 4 injuries.

August 6, 1993 - Virginia: Most intense tornado in VA since 1950. The twister caused an estimated $47.5 million in damage. Not only the costliest of the day but the costliest in the history of VA. 4 killed, 246 injured.

August 7, 2010 - Minnesota: This tornado had a five mile path. Total of 14 farm buildings destroyed. A sugar beet field was heavily scoured, with sugar beets pulled out of the ground. A pickup truck was tossed into that field.

August 8, 1939 - Michigan: An F4 tornado moved through portions of Kalamazoo County, MI. Two people were killed in the SE part of Kalamazoo. 25 “nice homes” were destroyed at Comstock.

August 9, 1878 - Connecticut: What was called “the breath of the Death Angel” occurred on this day in New Haven County, CT. This estimated F4 tornado destroyed portions of Wallingford. A total of 34 people were killed and at least 70 were injured.

Aug 10, 2011 - Oklahoma: This twister had a five mile path. Destroyed a double wide mobile home, debris carried several hundred yards downstream. 82-year-old Beverly Reed was killed. Two more single wide mobile homes were damaged, 2 people were injured.
