We are approaching the 100th anniversary of the deadliest tornado in U.S. History - The Tri-State Tornado of March 18, 1925. February 3, 1930 - Louisiana: As F2 tornado hit SW of Lafayette, LA. Several small homes were destroyed and debris was scattered across town. 12-year-old, Woodley Harrison, was killed in one of those homes. His mother and three brothers were injured.
February 4, 1971 - Mississippi: Only three weeks before a major outbreak would hit the Mississippi Delta, a small but devastating tornado event would occur. In the blink of an eye, a dedicated city of Grenada police officer lost his entire family. On January 22, 2023, we interviewed Officer Christopher Columbus Hankins, now age 77. He confirmed the details of what happened on this day and gave us insight into the outpouring of love shown after the event. Officer Hankins said it took several years for him to talk about the tragedy, and we were honored that he shared with us.

February 5, 2008 - Arkansas: The second-largest February tornado outbreak since 1950 occurred during the evening of February 5 and the early morning of February 6, 2008. The event began on Super Tuesday, while 24 U.S. states held primary elections and caucuses to select the presidential candidates for the upcoming presidential election. 87 tornadoes occurred in nine states, with 57 fatalities in four states. This tornado in Arkansas pushed through seven counties and has the longest path on record in the state.

February 6, 1942 - Georgia: An F3 tornado moved ENE from north of Alvaton, GA to three miles SW of Griffin. At “Mt. Carmel”, eight homes were destroyed. Six people were killed, three were in one home. “Acres of timber were leveled across SW Spalding County, and rural homes and barns were destroyed. Source: Thomas Grazulis.
February 7, 1971 - Florida: During the early AM of February 7, 1971, a waterspout south of Santa Rosa Island moved northeast, becoming a tornado near Navy Cove. Half of the units in a 112-unit apartment complex were destroyed near Gulf Breeze. 112 people were injured, there were no fatalities.

February 8, 1894 - Louisiana: An F2 tornado passed 1.5 miles NW of Port Hudson, LA. Three were killed in tenant homes on the three plantation in East Felicana Parish. Approximately five homes were destroyed and a dozen other buildings were damaged. Source: Thomas Grazulis
February 9, 2017 - Georgia: An EF2 tornado tracked for 10.6 miles across rural portions of Bulloch and Effingham counties in Georgia. Extensive tree damage occurred, and a few mobile homes were damaged or destroyed. There were seven injuries.

On January 29, a landspout moved through parts of Albuquerque, NM! This is the first documented tornado in New Mexico in the month of January.
