This Week In Tornado History!
July 24: Thomas Grazulis documents a tornado in Salem County, NJ that occurred on this day in 1803. It hit west of Bridgeton and moved north. A home was heavily damaged and there were at least five injuries. Shingles were carried a distance of nine miles.
July 25: On this day in 1985, Hurricane Bob spawned a very brief (0.10-mile path) but intense F3 tornado along the border of Albemarle/Greene County, VA. A grocery store was unroofed, and two homes were destroyed.

July 26: An EF3 tornado hit near Reserve, MT on this day in 2010. The Smith Ranch was completely destroyed. Two people were killed, and one was injured in the basement of the house. Vehicles and farm implements were thrown 1/4 of a mile away and mangled.

July 27: A EF1 tornado passed through forest near the town of Helton, Kentucky during the afternoon of July 27, 2014.
July 28: On this day in 1961, an F3 tornado with only a ½ mile path hit Sidney, OH. 10 homes were destroyed. The Sidney Machine tool Company plant sustained heavy damage. Read our summary about this event!

July 29: In 1896, an F2 crossed through Athens County, OH and the town of Glouster. Homes and a store were demolished and the owner of the store died as he became buried under the debris. Newspapers reported that a woman was “so badly frightened” that she died as well. Source: Thomas Grazulis
July 30: On this day in 2009, an EF2 tornado hit Olive Branch, MS. 7 homes were destroyed, and 130 others were damaged.

Chris was at the Huntsville office at the time and goes in depth of what it was like to go through such a momentous event. He wrote his story in this special Funnel Feature.
Article of the Week!
First EF3 Tornado EVER observed in July in Central NC
On July 19, 2023, an EF3 tornado struck portions of Nash and Edgecombe Counties in NC. Total path length was 16.5 miles. Maximum sustained winds were clocked at 150 mph. There were 16 injuries. The NWS Raleigh states this is the first EF3 tornado ever observed in central NC during the month of July. A Pfizer facility in Rocky Mount was struck and significantly damaged.
